Recapping the First Quarter of 2024

Happy Spring!

We have been quite busy over here at There’s Always Room! As we connect with more foster care agencies, we have received an increase in requests for YES bags and other clothing needs. As new needs have come up, the community has been incredible at meeting those needs, from donating clothes to delivering YES bags all around the county. We truly mean it when we say that we could not do this without you!

January started slow as I (Moriah) went on maternity leave to have a baby! During this time, our board members filled in so that I could rest and recover. By February, I was so ready to get back to work at the closet! And, it was time to kick off our 4th annual Easter Basket Fundraiser. We had 41 children sign up to receive full-size, customized Easter baskets, and donations poured in through our Amazon wishlist and online cash donations.

Our March board meeting was considered a “working meeting” as we met to assemble the baskets, each one labeled with the family name, age and gender of the child, and any food allergies to be mindful of. Every basket was delivered by the end of March, for the kiddos to enjoy on Easter morning!

Amidst all of this, our support group has continued to meet on a monthly basis. It has been a joy to give foster moms a special time to relax, meet others, and discuss various topics surrounding foster care. In February, we had a “Galentines Day” themed group, with a flower bouquet bar and lots of treats! How fun it is to spoil these foster moms who do so much for children in need.

As summer approaches (though I’m sure we will get another round of snowfall before then!), we have two major projects we want to complete by June. First, we will be purchasing new shelving and totes with funds donated by a local church. This will make our space way more organized and make it easier for volunteers to help us sort donations.

Secondly, we are planning on hosting an open house in June! More details to come soon, but we plan to open our doors for the community to come and tour our building and see what we do and how they can serve. We are super excited for this and can’t wait to share more as June gets closer.

There’s much work to be done, but we wouldn’t have it any other way! Each child we serve is a reminder of how important our mission is.

Blessings,

Moriah Bowman
